About Remains
UPDATE: Sorry for the lack of chapter updates. You’re probably wondering aobut chapter five. What happened was that right after I wrote chapter four, I had a brilliant idea for chapter seventeen (from my outline), and so I wrote that while the iron was hot. The events of seventeen gave me more content ideas for lots of other chapters, none of which were chapter five. By the time I crossed the word count finish line, I still hadn’t written the fifth chapter (and still haven’t), and everything else is in a complete state of disarray. I didn’t feel right posting chapters out of order, as it would ruin the story and be supremely confusing. Luckily, editing is what December is for, and I’ll get things straightened out and uploaded very soon.
At age seventeen, Katie Fye was arrested for multiple homicides. She had written private diary entries in which she confessed to the crimes, and there was evidence at one of the crime scenes that linked her beyond a reasonable doubt to that particular murder. She was quickly convicted and given the maximum sentence— death by lethal injection. She protested her conviction for many years, until one day she suddenly went strangely quiet about it, and no one knew why.
LaVonda James was on death row at the same time as Katie, and although they were not allowed direct contact with each other, their close proximity allowed LaVonda to see into parts of Katie’s life that know one else had ever known about… until now.
